Cleveland 588 MT Irons
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: A hollow head design allows weight to be distributed for a lower, deeper CG. Blade heights progress from shallower in long irons to taller in short irons, for a repeatable, mid-trajectory flight. The forged face insert enhances feel and ball speeds.
PLAYABILITY: Rounded soles are good from a variety of lies, resist digging and work well from the rough; the 588 MT tends to provide a fairly high ball flight on full swings.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Above-average directional correction on mis-hits; long irons are easy to strike with real authority, and they want to fly straight.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Many testers report overall distances that are similar to their usual set with ample consistency; off-center hits carry a somewhat predictable yardage; a few guys get exceptional length on solidly struck shots.
FEEL: They feel a bit like they look—heavy and strong through the ball; softer and nicer than most Cleveland irons in recent years; some say the forged face provides a "sweet" sensation at impact.
LOOK: Large heads are imposing and inspire confidence; filled in cavities look somewhat like musclebacks, which most testers find appealing.
